We all need a voice, and to speak up about what matters to us. This is mine.

I like to write long pieces about topics like history, literature, culture, technology, and design. I like to think about how systems work and how to make them work better for more people, especially ordinary people like me. I have one bachelor degree in the humanities, a second in design, and I have worked in technology, government, and design.

For both the writer and the audience, the process of writing shines a light on the subject matter and makes us think. It clarifies and articulates our thoughts, particularly when they are complex. That's why I chose to call this "lux audax," which is Latin for "bold light" according to some educated guesswork with Latin dictionaries and grammars. I am not from a generation which had Latin classes in public schools, but hopefully I got it right.
